- How did you both meet?
We met at the National College of Chiropractic, just outside of Chicago Illinois in 1996.
- Why did you start working/open your business together?
We realized that we had similar views on healthcare and how we wanted to provide care once we became chiropractors. After graduation we got married in February 2000 and moved to Burlington, where Jim was born and raised. - Tell us a little bit about yourselves and your business. (i.e. What is your unique offering?)
We believe that people want someone who is going to listen to their concerns. We take time to ensure that the care we provide is unique to the individual and that the focus in on getting their issues sorted out. It is important to us that no one feels like they are being rushed. Quite often one problem is connected to another, sometimes even an old injury, so making sure we have the right information can help us create a plan to start the healing process.
- When did you open your business in Downtown Burlington?
We have been in the Downtown core since we started. Initially we were located on Old Lakeshore Road where we had a home office. After buying our first home on Ontario Street, we re-located to the old BIA office at 490 Brant Street.
- What made you choose Downtown Burlington?
We loved the community feeling of being in the Downtown core. We love being near the water and being able to walk to work and walk our children to school.
- What other downtown businesses do you frequent and do business with?
Downtown Burlington has so much to offer. We love seeing movies at the Cinestarz theater, getting hair done with Derek at Pure Hair & Colour Group, picking up a tea at Tamp, smoothies at Trish Juice, treats from Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, and beautiful plants (I have many plant babies and am always on the hunt for more) and homeware from Centro. The food choices are so incredible it is hard to pick our favourite.
- If you had a piece of advice for other couples starting a business together, to help them succeed, what would it be?
Starting a business in general is a difficult task. So trying to take advantage of each other’s strengths can help in many areas. For us, the most important aspect is communication. Keep discussions frequent and open.
- Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions?
With our wedding anniversary on February 12th, and Family Day shortly after, Valentine’s Day has a family feel to it for us. Whether outside the home or in, we love being all together.
