The Burlington Downtown Business Association (BDBA) warmly welcomes new members to one of Halton Region’s most vibrant business communities. As a Business Improvement Area (BIA), the BDBA advocates for its members, enhances the downtown environment, and promotes the area as a destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Membership is automatic for businesses located within the BIA boundaries and includes access to a wide range of programs, services, and promotional opportunities.
What the BDBA Is Mandated to Do
Our organizational mandate is set exclusively by The Municipal Act, 2001:
The BDBA is a Local Board of the City of Burlington with a mandate to ”oversee the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally-owned land, within the BIA, beyond that provided at the expense of the municipality, and, promote the area as a business or shopping area”.
Focus 2028 is a living document, focused on its intent, but nimble to the changing socioeconomic local environment over its tenure.
To achieve our collective Vision, the staff and Board of Directors have worked cooperatively to implement a Plan that reflects on past successes, recognizes our present leadership role and plans actively for the future of the business district’s brand.
Focus 2028 identifies 5 strategic areas that will guide our ongoing stewardship of the small business district. These areas of focus recognize that the BDBA is a mature organization, one that has mastered its provincial mandate to “oversee, enhance, promote and maintain the elements of the public realm known as the BIA, beyond that provided at the expense of the municipality”.
Counting over forty-five years of service to the commercial district Downtown, we have matured to execute a work plan that focuses on:
Visitor Attraction • Strategic Member Engagement • Beautification & Placemaking • Organizational Stakeholder Relations • Organizational Effectiveness
This includes marketing campaigns, events, networking opportunities, skill-building workshops, and collaborations with local organizations and city departments.
The association also maintains public spaces with seasonal décor, lighting, and floral displays to enhance the downtown experience.
