Diana’s Downtown Memory

I am writing this submission from my Burlington home where I have lived for the past 26 years.  In these past 26 years Downtown Burlington has developed into a very attractive place to live.

One of my fondest memories is when I moved to Burlington and discovered the Village Square at Christmas time.  It gave me such a wonderful, cozy feeling of being in a vibrant community with lots to offer.  As I strolled the cobblestone walkway I said to myself “the community is very lucky to have such a quaint little village within the downtown core.”  It just reminded me of a European village.  Whenever anyone visits me, the Village tops the list of attractions.

One of the things I love about Downtown Burlington is the board walk along the lake which takes you right to Hamilton is something one should definitely experience. When my children were young, I would take them for a stroll and then to the park at Spencer Smith.  Now my children are young adults and I stroll the board walk with my friends and family.   I love my spring/summer/fall and even winter walks along the lake.  There is something about living near the water that brings a sense of calm to ones life.

Another thing I love is all the wonderful shops and restaurants.  I love taking a Saturday morning and going to a cafe and just watch the people go about their day.   Kelly’s bake shop is one of those places where you can relax while having a beverage and look out the window at all the people.  I just recently came upon a store called The Handmade House.  This store has such beautiful handmade items and it’s a must to see.

I love the small town feel of  Downtown Burlington.  The beautiful homes within walking distance is a nice way to spend the day viewing these homes.  They all have their own uniqueness.

One last thing, Downtown Burlington reminds me of the Hallmark Christmas shows with quaint shops, decorated streets filled with beautifully decorated trees and lights and the sense of community.  Proud to be a resident in Burlington.

Merry Christmas and the very best for 2021.

Regards,

Diana Weber
