Back-to-School Activities for Kids and Families

With school just around the corner, families are searching for back-to-school activities in Burlington that keep kids active, creative, and connected. From toddler play to dance classes and hands-on art, downtown Burlington has programs for every age and stage this fall.

Joseph Brant Museum – Toddler Days

For parents of toddlers, Toddler Days is back at Joseph Brant Museum this September! Perfect for keeping little ones busy while older siblings head back to school, this parented, interactive program is designed for children ages 2–4 and is all about hands-on fun and early learning.

  • When: Wednesdays, September 10 – October 29

  • Time: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

  • Cost: $12/child per week (adults attend free)

  • Ages: 2–4 years (pre-registration required)

Each week brings a new theme to explore, from Summer Treats and Camping to The Little Mermaid, At the Zoo, and even a special Halloween session to wrap up the season. Register your toddler here.

Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance & Bandura School

Looking for a fun way to keep kids moving after school? Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School is kicking off its 48th season this fall, welcoming dancers of all levels into a vibrant cultural community.

  • Ages: 4 and up

  • When: Tuesdays at 6 pm, starting September 16

Art Gallery of Burlington – Clay Programs

The Art Gallery of Burlington is offering a range of fall clay opportunities perfect for kids, teens, and families who want to get hands-on with creativity.

Clayin’ Around Family Workshops
  • Dates: September 13 (for neurodivergent kids & families) and September 27 (open to all families)

  • Time: 1–3 pm

  • Cost: $25/adult, $12/child or youth aged 4–17 (discounts for Friends of the AGB)

A welcoming, intergenerational workshop where families can learn clay basics or build on their skills through playful, collaborative projects. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information and to register, click here.

Fall in Love with Clay (Ages 7–12)
  • Dates: September 27 – November 8 (no class October 11)

  • Time: Saturdays, 10 am – 12 pm (6 weeks)

  • Cost: $216 member / $240 non-member

This six-week introduction to handbuilding teaches kids foundational techniques like coiling, pinching, slab building, and glazing. Projects include both playful and functional pieces, from personalized cups to collaborative tableware, all created in a fun, supportive studio space. Teen Clay Studio: DIY Style (Ages 12–17)
  • Dates: September 27 – November 1

  • Time: Saturdays, 1:30–4:00 pm (6 weeks)

  • Cost: $216 member / $240 non-member
