Seferian Design Group wins The Dunington-Grubb Award at the 47th Annual Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence

The 47th Annual Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence welcomed more than 600 industry members to the award ceremony, held at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in Toronto on January 7, 2020.  The annual competition features more than 500 entries in 40 categories judged by a panel of respected horticulture and landscape architectural industry experts.

The evening concludes with the presentation of the prestigious Dunington-Grubb Award which is bestowed upon the project considered the most outstanding earning the highest overall score in various construction categories.  The award is named after English landscape architects Lorrie Dunington-Grubb and her husband and business partner Howard Dunington-Grubb.  They were also the original founders of Sheridan Nurseries.

Seferian Design Group (SDG), our own downtown business, were awarded the 2020 Dunington-Grubb Award for their project “Simcoe Sophistication” in the category Residential Construction, over $1,000,000. The project site is a historical estate from the 19th century that required an update to the existing landscape.  The new design included an extensive rear yard retreat complete with a tranquil pool with integrated fountain feature, lush landscaping, a cabana for entertaining, fire bowl features, and extensive landscape lighting. The front yard saw the removal of the existing landscaping to allow for the introduction of new features. This design was approached carefully in order to propose a landscape that would serve to enhance and complement the existing architectural character while giving the property the rejuvenation the client desired.

The final product was a result of a year and a half of design followed by three years of construction. The SDG team worked closely with the clients and trades to ensure the result was something that was not only beautiful, but comfortable and livable.

“Working with clients to achieve their dream is why we do what we do. When we walk away at the end of a project and know that those using the space will have a sense of happiness and contentment, it is an overwhelmingly satisfying feeling. Being rewarded with such a high honor at the LO Awards only serves to reinforce why we are passionate with the work we do.” says Sarah Lynn Saari, the Landscape Architect and Project Manager on the project.
