Meet Strive Fitness
Get to know the people behind your favourite places & spaces in downtown Burlington! We’ll be introducing you to a new owner & business throughout the year!
This week, meet Ian Grimmer, owner of Strive Fitness
- Why did you start/open your business?
I relocated to Canada 11 years ago (originally from Newcastle, England) and have worked at a number of fitness facilities since arriving. As I got to know my clients (many as friends) they often told me that they only went to these facilities because of me and my training, so I decided it was time to open my own space and create an environment that felt friendly yet exclusive, and that my clients would love. - Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business. (i.e. What is your unique offering?)
I have over 30 years experience in the health and wellness industry (check out my bio on my website), I’m a friendly guy that just loves to workout, have a laugh, enjoy life and enjoy what I do. Strive Strength and Fitness is a private training studio that’s here to help anyone in the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. Whether it be weight loss, toning, strength training, bodybuilding, rehab or just general all round fitness. I offer private ‘appointment only’ personal training dedicated to customized one-on-one exercise programs designed and supervised specifically to help reach your health and fitness goals. No crowds or wait times, No judging or intimidation often associated with “big box” gyms. At Strive Strength and Fitness I believe I’ve created an environment of genuine customer care. - When did you open your business in Downtown Burlington?
February 2020 - What made you choose Downtown Burlington?
I live in Burlington and previously worked downtown for 8 years. All my clients live and work downtown so it made sense to open here. I absolutely love the downtown Burlington community and the small town feel in a sprawling city. With all the events that take place here (particularly The Sound of Music and Ribfest) Burlington truly is a great place to live and work! - What other downtown businesses do you frequent and do business with?
The Pump, Pure Boutique, Express Italian Eatery, Sunshine donuts, Joe Dogs, Cinestarz. We love strolling downtown and checking out anything new (or old). - What special events do you have coming up in 2020 that you would like the BDBA to promote and/or publish on our website and social media outlets?
Nothing planned at the moment. In the present situation with covid group events are a no-go but that’s the benefit of training at Strive Strength and Fitness, it’s safe and clean, personal, one to one, like having your own private gym! - If you had a piece of advice for our new businesses, to help them succeed, what would it be?
Easy. Just do it! Don’t procrastinate, and be prepared to learn as you go….and of course open in downtown Burlington as you couldn’t pick a better place! - If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life … what would it be?
Pizza. Wellness is more than just about working out, it is part of a lifestyle that includes mental health, fitness, nutrition and so much more. I tell my clients if you are going to treat yourself then why not go big (but not frequent) it’s all about balance.
