Meet Drs. Maja and Cam Edgar from Edgar Family Chiropractic
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day this month, we want to celebrate and recognize those who work together in business everyday that make our downtown a special place to work and play.
Meet Drs. Maja and Cameron Edgar from Edgar Family Chiropractic!
- How did you both meet?
We met in school in Toronto. Cameron was in his last year as an intern and I was just starting in my first year. What followed was a 3 year long distance relationship as Cameron went back to Alberta to start work and I stayed on to finish my studies. - Why did you start working/open your business together?
Once we were finally together and had spent some time working as associates (to learn the ropes of running a clinic), we decided it was time to open our own space and treat our patients the way that we felt was best for them. - Tell us a little bit about yourselves and your business. (i.e. What is your unique offering?)
We have always put the interests of our patients before anything else. Yes, we are business owners, but we are doctors first and foremost. We have a patient-centered approach and we believe in spending time with our patients (30-40 min on average). This allows us to really get to know our patients and what their unique individual needs are, which in turn translates to more successful treatment and quicker resolution to their problem. - When did you open your business in Downtown Burlington?
We opened our doors in October 2012. - What made you choose Downtown Burlington?
We loved the small community feel. From the moment we opened our doors, we have never regretted the decision to move here. We feel lucky to also now live and raise our kids in Downtown Burlington. - What other downtown businesses do you frequent and do business with?
We love so many business in downtown. Some of our favourite restaurants are The Pump, Express Italian Eatery, Honey West, Paradiso, Son of a Peach, Rayhoon, The Hood, Sunshine Donuts and Lola Chocobar and Sweet House. Our Optometrist is two doors down from us (Dr. Breanne Facey), Cameron gets his hair cuts at New York, New York men’s grooming lounge, I get my hair done at Salon Red. We also frequent some unique businesses such as Centro Garden, The Pop Up Shop, Pure Boutique and the new Handmade House. We truly love all our downtown neighbours and couldn’t be more proud to be part of this community. - If you had a piece of advice for other couples starting a business together, to help them succeed, what would it be?
Be ready to take a big risk and see it as an adventure. Recognize what your individual strengths are and then divide and conquer. Have trust that each person is doing their best that and that no matter what happens, you are a couple first and business partners second. - Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions?
We don’t usually celebrate big on actual Valentine’s day itself but our first date happened to fall on Valentine’s, so Cameron always gets me a single rose to commemorate that.
