Meet Jess and Daniel from Bar None Fitness Studio

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day this month, we want to celebrate and recognize couples who work together in business everyday.

Jess and Daniel from Bar None Fitness Studio!

  1. How did you both meet?
Through a mutual friend many, many moons ago.
  2. Why did you start working/open your business together?
We both shared a passion for fitness and helping people feel better and be better. Being able to spend our days together and work side by side, just seemed like the ideal scenario! And although we now work opposite schedules, after having our son, we still get to plan, brainstorm, and change people’s lives in such a positive and impactful way together!
  3. Tell us a little bit about yourselves and your business. (i.e. What is your unique  offering?)
We’re just two friendly people who love to workout and teach people how to better themselves through regular exercise and choosing healthy lifestyle habits. We are private, boutique, and here to help anyone and everyone —regardless of age or fitness level! We are a wellness studio! A one-stop shop for weight loss, toning, building, rehabbing, relaxing, stretching, strengthening, and becoming the best version of yourself! And by offering one-on-one training sessions that work with your schedule; you avoid the crowds, wait times, and intimidation often associated with “big box” gyms. You get the whole experience here —all of the tools and education you need, as well as the support of a cheer leader, coach, and friend to keep you motivated and accountable, always!
  4. When did you open your business in Downtown Burlington?
    During the winter of 2015.
  5. What made you choose Downtown Burlington?
The sense of community and actually being part of the downtown core was such an attraction for us. We love the smaller city feel, and Jess grew up here, so we both wanted to build this studio into a fun, health-forward, and welcoming place that felt like a second home!
  6. What other downtown businesses do you frequent and do business with?
Tamp, Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, The Pop Up Shoppe, Pure, Rayhoon, Lola’s, Joelle’s, GoFloat, Spa in the Village, Scotia Bank, Centro, and as many as we can explore on our off-time!
  7. If you had a piece of advice for other couples starting a business together, to help them succeed, what would it be?
Communication!!! Don’t stop communicating, and keep trying to get better at it! Have a vision that you both align with and make sure you remind yourself of what it takes to make that a reality.Never stop dreaming and expanding your potential! Don’t limit yourself by fearing the unknown or the things you aren’t good at. Get out there, step outside of your comfort zone, and do the things you never thought you could.Don’t lose your passion and spark! Keep learning and evolving! And don’t give up! Ever.
And make time for each other outside of work! That’s so important!
  8. Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions?
We have dinner at home, we get each other cute cards, and we eat chocolate????
