What Downtown Burlington Means To Me
Downtown Burlington has been the ‘home base’ for mine and my husband’s eleven year relationship. It has served as the backdrop to some of our most treasured memories, and it holds a very special place in my heart.
My husband and I first connected at Joe Dog’s in March of 2010. We shared drinks for my birthday celebration and connected through a mutual friend. We enjoyed a (cold, but enjoyable) walk through the downtown core that evening, and sparks flew. We went on our first date one week later, and here we are with almost eleven years under our belt.
We spent that first summer taking walks through the downtown, meeting up after I was done working in the core. One of my favourite memories is from that summer; we were lucky enough to meet one of our favourite bands after they did sound check for Sound of Music. We will never forget the memories and connection we made that summer.
We also celebrated our engagement in Downtown Burlington, not once or twice, but three times. When my husband proposed at home, we celebrated by heading down to Pepperwood Bistro for champagne on the patio. When it was time for our engagement photos, we had them taken in Spencer Smith Park. And when the time came for our engagement party, the downtown core once again served as the backdrop to our celebration, as we enjoyed dinner and drinks with 50 of our closest family and friends at B&B Taps and Grille.
As we have grown together and had our children, the downtown core has continued to be a major part of our lives. We spent our first New Year’s Eve as a family of 3 walking through the Festival of Lights. We enjoyed bringing our son to his first Trick or Treating event at Treats in our Streets. Downtown Burlington was, and continues to be, a major player in our family’s milestones.
Both myself and my husband have hundreds of memories together where Downtown Burlington plays an important part, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the beauty of our great city and it’s lively downtown core.
