Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School was formed in 1977 by a group of young Canadians wishing to keep their Ukrainian culture alive. The name Tyrsa comes from a wild grass that grows in Ukraine. In the past, the group has performed at a variety of festivals in Canada such as Expo 86, The United States, a tour of Ukraine, Southern Ontario. Mission Statement: To develop our youth through the instruction of Ukrainian dance, song, and arts in an atmosphere that promotes responsibility, instills self-confidence, and cultivates an appreciation for the art and brilliance, of Ukrainian Culture, with the intent of contributing to the Canadian multicultural mosaic. The school is open to the general public, Ukrainian fluency or ancestry, are not required. Over the years, Tyrsa has hosted a number of talented choreographers whose vision and dedication enhanced the lives and enriched the Ukrainian culture of the students. Today we have classes ranging for ages 4 and up and as of 2015 we have offered folklore music instruction on the Bandura (Ukraine\\\'s national instrument) for all ages. Founded in the early stages of 2012 through a collective love of cigars, the desire to own and operate their own business and to create a space that would make everyone who walks through the door feel welcome, comfortable and included, came Village Cigar Company & Barbershop. Burlington natives Jerry Filice & Ryan Baker longed for their own business in their home town. After signing the lease in Village Square in beautiful Downtown Burlington, Ontario in May 2012, they wasted no time starting demolition just moments after the keys landed in the palms of their hands. The next two months were spent relentlessly charging forward to build the shop they always envisioned. And from that shop build, grew a community onto itself.
