DESCRIPTION:Join us at Joseph Brant Museum for our eat make share speaker series\, featuring acclaimed Canadian cookbook authors. Each month\, a new speaker will discuss their publication and how their family’s cultural background has influenced their culinary journey. Attendees will also enjoy a recipe demonstration and have the opportunity to view the special exhibit eat make share: a taste of immigration from the Canadian Museums of Immigration at Pier 21. Featured titles will also be available for purchase directly from the author and in the Museum’s gift shop. \nTickets are $25\, includes admission to Joseph Brant Museum\, speaker presentation (7pm)\, and light refreshments. The Museum will open 1-hour prior to the presentation at 6pm for those who wish to view the special exhibit eat make share: a taste of immigration. This event is recommended for ages 12+.\nIrene Matys is a World Gourmand Award winning and Globe and Mail bestselling cookbook author\, television food expert\, and farm-to-table advocate. She is the author of My Cypriot Table: Mediterranean Recipes for Gathering\, Sharing\, and Savouring\, a celebrated debut cookbook featuring over 100 vibrant recipes inspired by her Greek Cypriot heritage and Canada’s seasonal bounty. \nBorn in Cyprus\, Irene immigrated to Canada in 1976 as a refugee\, bringing with her a deep rooted connection to food\, family\, and tradition. Her culinary journey began early\, spending much of her childhood in her parents’ restaurant\, Ciccio’s Pizza\, which they purchased in Sarnia in 1980. Alongside this experience\, it was her mama\, her yiayia ( grandmother)\, and the family garden that truly nurtured her love of cooking\, instilling in her the importance of fresh\, seasonal ingredients and the joy of sharing meals. This event is recommended for ages 12+. \nApril 28\, 2026 | The Route to Parsi Cooking by Niloufer Mavalvala \nParsis or ‘the people from Pars’ migrated from Persia to India between the 8th and 10th centuries. It was not just the native language and culture this community adopted\, but also the local produce from which emerged the typical Parsi cuisine. \nParsi cooking was shaped from two ancient cultures: Persian and Indian. This unusual historical background gives Parsi dishes their distinct and unique flavours. \nBorn and raised in Karachi\, Pakistan\, Niloufer’s love for food combined with extensive world travel from a young age inspired her to experiment with world cuisines. Niloufer gave her first cooking class to a group of school girls at the age of 17; loving the opportunity to meet new people who share her passion for food\, she has gone on to give many\, many more cooking classes in Dubai\, UK\, and Canada – where she has lived for the past 16 years with her family. Most recently she was invited as a guest to the prestigious cookery school Le Cordon Bleu London to demonstrate and share her knowledge on Parsi Cooking.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibition | Iron Willed: Women in STEM
DESCRIPTION:Women have made significant contributions to STEM (science\, technology\, engineering\, math) but their stories are often untold. This special exhibition shares some of these stories and provides recognition for the crucial role of women in STEM. Through text and images\, the display tells the stories of historical and contemporary Women in STEM\, their scientific contributions as well as their challenges in the face of persistent systemic barriers. Iron Willed: Women in STEM is a travelling an exhibition developed by Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation on view at Joseph Brant Museum from October 4 – March 29\, 2026.
