Healthy Holiday Party Tips

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The tree is trimmed, the garland is hung and the party invites are coming fast and furious. At Bodhi Bar we are all about a good party so in the spirit of giving, we want to share some holiday party tips for staying on track when temptation is every where.

Start your day off healthy with a protein packed smoothie or cold pressed juice.

Never arrive hungry – skipping meals to save calories for later is never a good idea. If you are hungry, you will eat more, be less discerning with your choices and your stomach won’t have enough time to signal you are full before you’ve worked your way through the apps and snacks.Choose

Low Cal Drinks – Stick to wine, light beer, or single alcohols. DYK that a glass of champagne has only 96 calories in comparison to a Chocotini which comes in at 438 calories!  Also, be sure to alternate between cocktails and water.

Peruse before you Choose – do a once-over of the food options and decide what you want to choose rather than grabbing everything along the buffet. Bonus tip – fill half your plate with veggies or salad then add small portions of indulgent options.

Bring a Healthy Option – If you are headed to a friend or family members for a holiday get together offer to bring an appetizer, side or dessert (and make it a healthy, low cal choice)

Keep your Hands Full – Carry a clutch-style bag or smart phone that you have to hold in one hand and a low calorie drink in the other. You’ll be less tempted to nibble when you don’t have a free hand.

Get Social – talk more and eat less (no one wants to talk with their mouth full right?)

Get Active – if there is a dance floor, get on it. Planning your own party? Invite guests to go ice skating (it’s free at Discovery Landing), skiing (head to Glen Eden) or walk along the waterfront to enjoy the Festival of Lights before coming back to your home for a healthy meal.
