Come Downtown in August for Fun, Food and Entertainment

As we all enjoy the long days of summer and you look for fun ways to spend your time, bring your friends and family downtown for fun, food and entertainment.

Many people have Labour Day weekend circled in their calendars as Canada’s Largest Ribfest takes over Spencer Smith Park.  While Ribfest is an annual favourite there are many other great events for you and your family to explore Downtown in the coming month.

The newly-launched Market in the Village continues the first Saturday of each month this summer, concluding on Saturday September 1st.  The BDBA is a proud sponsor of this Village Square event which brings over twenty artisan pop-up vendors and showcases the wealth of bricks and mortar businesses in the heart of the Village.

The Burlington Downtown Jazz Fest returns for another triumphant FREE weekend August 11-12, featuring 4 outstanding jazz performances on the outdoor Plaza of the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, co-presented by the Burlington Downtown Business Association. Two-time JUNO nominated baritone saxophonist and composer Shirantha Beddage kicks off the free Festival on Saturday August 11 followed by an evening performance by the critically acclaimed Elise Legrow.  Sunday programming features the soulful music of Coco Love Alcorn and concludes with The Mike Downes Quartet, winner of the 2018 JUNO Award for Jazz Album of the Year! While you’re here enjoying the free music be sure to bring your appetite.  Two of our business members will be on site to tempt your palate with pre-packaged snacks from Coffee Culture and sweet treats from one of our newest Downtown businesses: Lola Choco Bar.

The weekend also features Lakeside a la Carte the afternoon of Sunday August 12th at Spencer Smith Park featuring eight of Downtown’s best restaurants against the backdrop of Lake Ontario.  Rotary of Burlington organizes this annual favourite, with a portion of proceeds benefiting their organization.

Kicking off right after Lakeside, and celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year, is A Taste of Burlington! This prix-fixe dining program returns for another summer season August 13th – September 3rd showcasing the best food and drinks from 24 participating eateries. View all participating restaurants here, 8 of which are right here in downtown Burlington. Reservations highly recommended.
