Fall into Fashion
Posted: Oct 7, 2019

Just like seasons change, certain fashion-trends have their way of making a comeback – and this year, friends, it looks like the turtleneck (and mock-necks) are hot-hot-hot. No…it’s not the nineties, but Scriveners confirms this Fall, a turtleneck is a staple.

Fall is undoubtedly the best season for style – and Burlington’s downtown core has become a one-stop-shop for all your fashion needs. We grabbed our most-loved booties and hit the streets in search of Fashion Week inspired trends. The colours and fabrics of fall fashion have us swooning. With the help of downtown’s hottest shops, we pulled together the must-have trends of the season.

Leopard Print

A hot pattern this season is leopard print – and Joelle’s is wild about it. Whether you’re on the prowl for a sweater or a pair of jeans – from cashmere to denim – there are endless options to take your look on the wild side this Fall.

Vegan Leather Pants

You don’t need to be dancing next to John Travolta to shake your hips in a pair of vegan leather leggings. While some may think this fashion-trend doesn’t come easy to wear, it’s all about mixing and matching. Vegan leather pants are popping up everywhere along Brant Street. Easily transferable from dressy to casual, this fashion trend is kind to our animal friends and goes well with everything from a blouse to a casual sweater.

Crossbody Bags + Chains

Simple and chic! 70s crossbody bags are making a comeback. Take a peek at what Posh Couture has to offer! Rectangular style with curved edges that have a vintage vibe and can be worn crossbody or over your shoulder. This year’s breakout fashion trend is a chain-strap, adding a little edge to elegance.

After surviving a Canadian winter – or twenty, we quickly learn the one piece of clothing worth splurging year-after-year is a coat. In early fall, when you wake up to winter, have lunch during summer, and come home to a cool fall breeze, it’s easy to get away with something light such as a blazer from Wish Boutique, but as we get close to winter months, we need something hearty to keep us toasty warm.

Double-Breasted Overcoat

Always classic is a polished double-breasted overcoat. Tailored to fit with classic details, it easily matches a variety of outfit choices. Heels or sneakers can make all the difference in the ton of the jacket, easily bringing it from day to night.

Fully insulated to keep you warm and toasty, a parka is a Canadian must-have as we battle the snowy season. To look modern from any angle, this fall, parka’s that fall just past the hip are on-trend, providing effortless elegance while also offering flexibility and style. This ¾ Tulip Parka from Joseph Tassoni, made downtown Burlington by Canadians, pulls out all the stops in rainbow of colours. Equally as warm and fashion-forward is the men’s Utility Parka in white. In a patented “T” silhouette, this parka gives shape and versatility, making it the perfect winter coat to get you through even the harshest winter.

This season’s standard of colour is a sea of neutrals and deep wines. Scriveners in downtown Burlington is seeing a lot of burgundy and plum hit the floor and fly off the shelves. Dark green, evening blue, and buttery brown are also infusing the fall colour palette.
