Fall Décor
Posted: Oct 10, 2019

There’s a coziness about this time of year. A season of ciders and harvests, spooky tales and haunted trails, hearty meals and wondrous sights. With crunchy leaves under our feet and warm pumpkin spice in hand, autumn can’t help but inspire a little nesting in all of us. From the front porch to the dining table, and bathroom linens to welcome mats, we came up with fall decorating ideas certain to bring warmth into your home. Get ready to pile on the plaid.

Front Porch

Curb appeal is everything. It’s a warm welcome home, a guest’s first impression of your humble abode – the spot your paperboy throws the paper. The cool weather doesn’t mean the end of outdoor décor, if anything it means more opportunity. Here’s where to start:

Planters give instant allure and help bring some oomph to an otherwise gray day. Centro Garden has blended mums, kale, ornamental peppers, and fall grasses into a beautiful fall planter. Add a coloured pot for a pop of colour (this year’s hot colour is deep red/plum) to give an instant impact.

Why hello, there – or should we say Hey Pumpkin. Sure, you could put a practical doormat outside your door, but where’s the fun in that? Puns and charming messages have been making their way to the welcome mat and perking up visitors with every ring of the bell. Little Pop Up Shoppe has adorable, fall-themed welcome mats from WeGotWood that are perfect for your porch.

Speaking of pumpkins…you’re going to need some pumpkins and Centro’s got you covered. In every size and a variety of colours, these goulish gourds are a fall décor classic. Place a few down your front steps, stuff them with succulents, place one on either end of your door – the options are endless, and we’re pretty pumped about that.

Front Entrance

This space sets the tone for your home – the front entryway. While entryways range in all variety of magnitudes, there’s one simple piece of décor that fits every shape and size: a flower arrangement. Brant Florist is your one-stop-shop for beautiful floral arrangements in a variety of fall colours. Fresh flowers can transform a space by adding extra colour and texture. Pick-up something pre-made or order something that fits your style.

Living Room

The coziest nook of the house this time of year. Looking out the window, the lawn is a sea of reds and golds. You’re tucked under a blanket with a cool fall breeze trickling in the window. The fireplace is on. Total peace.

One of our favourite things to do around here (besides eat delicious fall treats and shop for fabulous fall fashions ) is curl up with a good book under a cozy blanket. Whether you’re looking for a coffee table book to engage your guests, recipes suited for a Thanksgiving table, or a novel to escape a cold winter night, A Different Drummer has endless treasures to seek. Don’t forget a cozy throw from Centro to keep your footsies toasty warm.

Looking for a place to put down your book? Your average, everyday coffee table just isn’t going to cut it. Kay at Home has an incredible one-of-a-kind coffee table hand-crafted from Manitoba Maple. The surface is unique and perfect for fall, decorated in a beautiful sea of orange and red leaves and covered in resign.

Kitchen

The heart of the home. The place where everyone gathers…for the grub. If you’re hosting a Thanksgiving dinner a charcuterie board is an easy go-to for the peckish. But rather than using a charcuterie board, Kay at Home has designed a beautiful Lazy Susan with a red Canadian maple leaf in the centre. Place it in an easily accessible spot for friends and family to grab nibbles between drink and conversation.

The kitchen table or island typically becomes a gathering place – and having a centrepiece that allows conversation is key. Pure Boutique has adorable fabric pumpkins which can be paired with a short floral arrangement from Brant Florist. It may seem simple but it will be sure to impress your guests.

Additional Items

One of the most universal pieces of décor is a candle. They’re the perfect way to transform a home into a season. Scent reminds people of places, people, and things. The scent you choose is certain to remind your family and friends of the memories they made at your home over the holidays. Pure Boutique has a wide assortment of Soy Candles for your choosing. They create ambiance and mood and are often highly underrated when it comes to home décor.

Like the welcome mat, signs are big right now. Nothing says rustic and farmhouse like a wood sign – and you can literally get them to say anything that fits the style and sense of humor of your home. Little Pop Up Shoppe has some darling, dual signs right now by WeGotWood. The front, perfect for Thanksgiving and Fall – while the back is itching for Christmas. Bang for your buck – and simply adorable.

Then, lastly, there’s Burlington’s Animal Aid Attic. When we visited last week there was a darling yellow leaf platter. This quaint, compact store is packed with second-hand treasures, with proceeds from sales going to a very meaningful cause, Animal Aid and the Humane Society.
