Meet Rob from Move Like it Matters
Posted: Feb 19, 2019

Get to know the people behind your favourite places & spaces in downtown Burlington! We’ll be introducing you to a new owner & business throughout the year!

This week, meet Rob from Move Like It Matters!

1. Why did you start/open your business?

I opened my business because I saw a big gap in how people were being taught to take care of their bodies and heal from injuries and what actually works.  Our traditional models of injury recovery and pain relief don’t work for chronic conditions.  I’m here to show people there is another way, and it works. My goal is to help people truly understand how their bodies work and then give them the tools they need to get the results they want, without all the hype and unrealistic expectations that normally come along with the fitness industry.

2. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business. (i.e. What is your unique offering?)

I’m personal trainer of 10 years and a Fascial Stretch Therapist of 6 years.  I’ve been an athlete my whole life and have come back from a host of injuries over the years.  Basketball is my favorite sport and I’m a HUGE Raptors fan.  I like video games and reading.  I’m basically a really sarcastic nerd who likes to lift things and help people.

My business is essentially teaching people how to move again, or even for the first time.  I offer a combination of Fascial Stretch Therapy, movement retraining and strength training.  Fascial Stretch Therapy is a table based assisted stretching technique that can produce noticeable results after just one session.  Then we retrain movements to help maintain that mobility long term.  Strength training follows to make my clients lives easier and give them more confidence.  This unique approach is a combination of methods that cover the whole spectrum of recovery, maintenance and performance.

3. When did you open your business in Downtown Burlington?

I opened up in May of 2018

4.What made you choose Downtown Burlington?

Downtown Burlington has such a wide range of business and such a great community feeling to it.  I’m all about building relationships and helping out where I can so the close knit feeling Downtown Burlington really appealed to me.  Being close the park and the water is a big bonus too.

5. What are the biggest benefits of having your business located in the downtown Burlington core?

For me it’s  an opportunity to partner with other great businesses that are close by and to help out as many people as I can.  I truly believe everyone can build the knowledge and capacity to take care of their own health.  Downtown Burlington has such an active community and that’s a huge bonus for me.

6. What other downtown businesses do you frequent and do business with?

(i.e. banking, dentist, shopping, where do you eat, etc.)

I do everything downtown!  I bank, I eat, I drink!  I love heading to Tamp for a cup of coffee.  The Coop for their Nashville Chicken Sandwich(fried of course).  Son Of A Peach for the best pizza money can buy.  Sandwiches at the Hood are amazing every time.  Adam Russell over at Maximized Health Chiropractic does awesome work and has become a good friend.  There are countless amazing places here in downtown Burlington.  I’m proud to be a small part of the community.

7. If you had a piece of advice for our new businesses, to help them succeed, what would it be?

Be yourself and do what you love.
Do really good work and make sure everyone knows about it.

8. What is your favourite holiday? Why?

December 30th, National Bacon Day.  It’s a thing, your welcome.

9. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life … what would it be?

Pizza, hands down.  Would totally be OK with a lifetime of pizza.  Here’s looking at you Son Of A Peach.
