In 1985, when Paola was growing up in St. Catharines, she began to experience body hair growth at an early age. As she entered her teenage years, these physical changes made her less confident in her own skin. Hair removal is a very personal and uncomfortable conversation to have when you’re young, and on top of that, Paola had sensitive skin. Shaving her hair was becoming too frequent of a task, and waxing was causing skin irritation and ingrown hairs.
Body and facial hair removal is intimate and can come with so much stigma and pressure, but it is a deeply personal choice. After Paola experienced the magic and confidence after Sugaring, she wanted to share this with even more women like her, with no shame and no judgment. With just a loan from her mom, who always supported her journey, she started Sugarmoon Salon.
Over nearly two decades, Paola has witnessed a change, and women are finally feeling more confident to discuss the former taboos of facial and body hair. 1940s: The First Generation
Our story begins back in the 1940s, in a little town in central Italy called Montorio. This is where young Nonno Giuseppe and Nonna Ida opened their very first pizzeria. Renowned for their delicious, traditional Italian pizzas, these “pizzaioli” (“pizza makers”) spent many long nights passing their skills along to the rest of the family.
1960s: The Second Generation
Looking to take their passion for pizza-making on a journey to a different world, Mama Anna and Papa Antonio made the trip to Canada from their homeland in the 1960s, bringing with them the perfectionist, old-world traditions taught to them by Nonno and Nonna. They opened their first restaurant in 1967: La Gondola at Keele and Wilson. In 1970, they felt their new baby Luigi’s birth should be marked in celebration, and opened another restaurant at Bathurst and Harbord, called Pizza Gigi. Pizza Gigi was sold to Sam the Pizza Maker; having three kids and running a pizzeria proved to be too much. However, approximately 25 years later, the family noticed a need for better pizza in Toronto, and Pizzaiolo was born.
2000s: The Third Generation
Although baby Luigi has grown up since the early days of Pizza Gigi, his love and passion for the pizza-making business has been inherited from his parents. Luigi continued to carry on the family tradition and authenticity by opening his first store on November 13, 2000; the Pizzaiolo you know today.
Just like his Nonno and Nonna before him, Luigi has shared his experience, skills and values with all of us at Pizzaiolo, and because of this, you’re sure to taste the difference that family and tradition can bring to your table, at all of our locations.

What is Floating?
Commonly known as Floatation Therapy, Sensory Deprivation, or R.E.S.T (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique), is the practice of floating on your back about half in and half out of the saltwater solution within a float tank (also commonly referred to as a sensory deprivation tank or isolation tank). The tank is completely dark, silent, and you won’t be fighting gravity; floating is about everything you won’t be doing.
Float tanks can be thought of as the perfect bath tub. Our ProFloat Cabins are 8′ long, 4.5′ wide, and 6.5′ tall. Filled with about 1′ of water and saturated with approximately 1,000 Ibs of Epsom salt, you will float effortlessly. The water is maintained at body temperature (34.1 degrees) and once you settle in, you lose track of where your body ends and where the water begins.
Air flows freely in and out, and the door never locks (you can get out at any time). The cabins even have switches for lights and music; you are in total control of your environment.
The water solution and the tank are super sanitary. The solution is fully filtered at least 3 times between clients through an intense UV light system. The large quantity of Epsom salts also act as a natural disinfectant, making it way cleaner than traditional pools or hot tubs.
Our Story
As with many before, it only took one float to get us hooked. We immediately knew this was a unique experience that we wanted to share with others. After a few long walks in the forest, several coffee-shop meetings, a trip to the float conference in Portland, and some floats along the way, we began visualizing our ideal float centre. Striving to share floating with as many people as possible, we found that Burlington (our home town), would be the perfect place to set up shop.
We embarked on our first “real world” entrepreneurial journey, and remained driven by the belief that floating is an excellent tool for personal optimization. Whether it be after a workout, or a stressful day, there wasn’t anything quite like the warm, cozy feeling of laying down weightless in a tank. It is an amazingly simple yet powerful tool, with the ability to enhance anyone’s life.
