Formerly an avid visitor of Downtown Burlington, I have now been a resident for 7 years.  My fascination with Downtown came by a combination of many factors:

  1. A place to get away and study at local coffee shops
  2. Fulfilling my athletic needs by cycling, blading, and/or walking my dogs by the lake
  3. The uniqueness of all the independently owned stores that are interspersed between blocks, spanning from Martha Street to Brant Street.

I have always believed in supporting local independent shops.  My father has owned Cyclepath Oakville, a family run bicycle store located at 507 Speers Rd., my whole life.  I see the dedication and hard work it takes to run your own business, and love paying it forward to support other independent stores.

Because of this upbringing my mother opened Pearl Street Fine Shoes, located at 401 pearl Street, a few years ago. I followed soon after, opening up my own practice, Kinetic Physiotherapy located at 2078 Pine Street.

Living and owning a business in the downtown has been truly amazing! All I need is within walking distance.

I celebrated my wedding a couple of year ago, and I will tell you a bride never wants to be stressed out on the day of her wedding, not to mention wants everything to be PERFECT!  So what did I do?  I used the most talented services in Burlington, and guess what, they were all within a few blocks of each other!

We had a spa day with Nancy and her staff at Skinsation, our flowers were from Burlington Blooms, and everyone could not stop raving about how beautiful the arrangements were. Rick at RC Embroidery did a fantastic job embroidering my bridal party’s names on their bags. My bridesmaids and I wore elegant Mark Fisher shoes (non-stop compliments on them) from Pearl Street Fine Shoes. My mother and I booked our hair at SalonRed, and Dave, Courtney and Candice were so accommodating with the appointment times. Their talent far surpasses anything I could have imagined.

Convenience is not the only factor that keeps me shopping in downtown Burlington. There is a difference when you visit any shop here. The owners are always present! If I need unique fashion-forward clothing I am always guaranteed to be greeted by Joelle at Joelle’s with a smile and amazing fashion tips, or Mirella at Mirella’s Ladies Boutique who always takes her time ensuring the dress I choose is flattering and compliments my personality, body, and skin type.  I definitely do not get that level of service at generic, corporate stores.  The owners all take pride in their businesses, are passionate about what they do, and make everyone that walks in their doors feel welcome.

I encourage everyone to put their feet to the streets and support our downtown stores. Once you do, you will never go anywhere else!
