My View: Amy Edward & Prom Hop 2013
Posted: May 14, 2013

This week’s guest blogger is grade 9 student Amy Edward of Brantford, Ontario. She recently visited Downtown Burlington for our Prom Hop event and we’re delighted she was willing to share her experience with us!

On Easter Monday of 2013, my best friends, Sloane, Shaye, Megan and I went to Downtown Burlington’s fashion event “Prom Hop.” We came to Burlington all the way from Brantford just for the event. We went to Joelle’s, Vogue Models & Talent Mgmt., Saltridges, Toetally Nailed, and The Oyster. Our day was amazing, and we bought some great items!prom-hop-burlington

One of the interesting features of the event was that each store would sign your passport that was given to you at the first store you went into. The passport was collected at the last store you went to and was put into a draw for a prize.

Another fun thing was that some of the participating stores gave out free things just for going into their store. For example, we got gift certificates, jewelry, and cupcakes!

We started our day at Joelle’s. With the help of the wonderful staff at the store, I bought a trendy dress for my semi-formal dance and Shaye and Sloane bought Cake hair products. As a regular shopper of Joelle’s, I can say the store has something for everyone.

During the day we went to two fashion shows held at Vogue Models & Talent Mgmt. on Brant Street. The shows were very well done. The models did a great job of showcasing the local fashion, and the host and owner Sandie did a great job of welcoming her audience.

In the afternoon we went to Saltridges. This cosmetic boutique has everything a girl could ever need in make-up. There I bought a new foundation applicator, and I use it everyday!

Next we went to Toetally Nailed, and even though we did not have enough time to get a manicure and pedicure done we still had a great time chatting with the owner Andi. She showed us a book of all of the freehand nail art she can do and my what a talent she is! I was amazed by all the different designs she can do.formal-dresses-burlington

We then went to The Oyster. Although we had already bought our dresses for our dance that did not stop us from trying more dresses on! You can never try too many dresses on! All of us were very close to buying even more dresses just because they were so beautiful. Also, Kathy, the owner of the store, and her staff were so welcoming and helpful.

So at the end of the day, my girlfriends and I look back with fond memories of a great day in Downtown Burlington at their “Prom Hop” event. Now we’re excited to find out whether our signed passports won us a prize. Cross your fingers and wish us luck!
